Mainland Relatives

This has now become my own personal blog. I don't have enough action in Nanakuli Ridge at present and I can use the blog for my purposes.

"We all make small sacrifices every day that make the world a better place.
Imagine the possibilities if we join together to bring hope and
lasting change to the social dancers in West Oahu."

Received nice letters, (they don't have internet,) from my sister and her daughter, my neice. My sister, Beatrice apparently got her Christmas present. My other sister, Eleanor apparently not. Her internet connection has not responded to my repeated emails.

"Young At Heart" by Frank Sinatra

My neice Yvonne sends me postcards from all over. She likes to travel. Sent me a Valentine's Day Card and I quote:
"Had to share a picture (on right) of our Monkeys, Madison, 11 years old and Maci, 9 years old.
Love you,  Bill and Yvonne.

"PS: Thank you for the always amazing chocolates. I share them with my son, Scott and my daughter, Bridget. They all love them."

I will have to snail mail and tell them I got the letters and then perhaps they can find use for this personal blog of mine too, anyone and everyone can read them. This is turning out pretty good and I can blog more often.

Pepe Side Note: Anyone interested in social partner dancing, check out the Oahu - West blog in the side bar. Just click and it will appear like magic on your screen.

Long Time, No Post

I missed the Patrol photo because I had to catch a bus Wednesday and get to Waipahu. Fortunately, everything went well and I got home early.

"True friendship is like sound health, the value of it is seldom known until it is lost."

Today, Friday, my errand to get some groceries. I took my bag for the groceries and the camera. Stopped by Bright Morning Star and nothing then stopped and said hello to the people at Kokua Mau. Around the corner I saw Carla and waved. Then I saw the guys at the Huli Huli chicken.

Gat'em hot off da grill.

A few people there, so I got a nice photo. They hadn't looked into the blog yet so, I told them
I would get a poster in for them  And I also gave them one of the famous Nanakuli Ridge caps.

"Morning Dew" by Melveen Leed.

Then over to get a little cash from the machine. Then got my goodies at Sack N Save
and took a parting shot at the entrance. After all this is Nanakuli Ridge.

I will have to include the kibutzers when they have a bigger crowd a little more
to my right. Anyway, I got home OK and I ain't going anywhere.

Buddy Day at Nanaikeola

Nanaikeola Senior Apartments:
I got to the 3rd floor community room after eleven am and they were having the meeting and at the same time preparing for lunch. It seems to be a good thing to get together to state what pleases and what displeases in a civilized manner. This is progress. We are fortunate to live in this place and we can try to make things easier for everyone concerned.

"Friends are the bacon bits in the salad bowl of life."

I found out that not all plastic containers are recyclable. I cannot eat in public yet but next time I can bring home a little snack of leftovers.
"Young At Heart" by Frank Sinatra

Seated: Mabel Priddy, Emily Phillip and Jeauna Kakahaumaele and Kathy Brown.
Standing: Mitchell Phillip, Ruth Whitney and Ruth Hinol.

"Youth: The age of striving and selfishness; Old age, the period of dreaming dreams
for the young and for the future that age cannot see."

Ruth Hinol: We are having lunch at the moment getting together for a "Buddy System Meeting."

Ruth Whitney: We had a good lunch and a nice get together.
(we certainly will get bigger quotes with time.)

Emily Phillips: We had a very nice time on our Buddy Day. We all got together.

Jeauna: We has a nice day and enjoyed our first get together on our Buddy Day. Thanks to Joe.

Pub's Side Note: They are just getting used to the photos, quotes and the follow up for the Nanakuli Ridge blog.

Nanaikeola Senior Apartments.

I'm the life of the party...... even if it lasts until 8 p.m.
I'm very good at opening childproof caps.... with a hammer.
I'm usually interested in going home before I get to where I am going.
I'm awake many hours before my body allows me to get up.

I'm smiling all the time because I can't hear a thing you're saying.
I'm very good at telling stories; over and over and over and over.
I'm so cared for -- long term care, eye care, private care, dental care.
I'm not really grouchy, I just don't like traffic, waiting in long lines, crowds, lawyers, unruly kids,
barking dogs, politicians and a few other things I can't seem to remember right now.

I'm sure everything I can't find is in a safe secure place, somewhere.
I'm wrinkled, saggy, lumpy, and that's just my left leg.
I'm having trouble remembering simple words like .....
I'm beginning to realize that aging is not for wimps.
I'm sure they are making adults much younger these days, and when did they let kids become policemen?

I'm wondering, if you're only as old as you feel, how could I be alive at 150?
I'm a walking storeroom of facts..... I've just lost the key to the storeroom door.
Yes, I'm a SENIOR CITIZEN and I think I am having the time of my life!
Now if I could only remember who sent this to me.

Nice Day

I had a good night's sleep and got on the computer. I am beginning to think I am addicted, but my blogs and email have become an important part of the waning days of my life.

"We'll be Friends Forever, won't we, Pooh?" asked Piglet.
"Even longer," Pooh answered.

Got a phone call from Tina Lopez and they wanted to come over and get the notebook. She called in the afternoon and they were downstairs already. I explained and they explained and we may have some communication for the future.

Tina Lopez and Midred Magilacuddy (not her name) of the Univeristy of Hawaii
with a donated notebook computer for the kids at the Nanakuli Schools.

I had to go upstairs and get some paper and a pen to get more info, then I forgot to get one of the names. Then I also had to get a couple caps for the kids. Then showed them the courtyard and the community room and they met Annette, then they talked about getting the kids over to mingle with the Seniors. I don't have time for that but others will.

"Sh-Boom, (Life Could Be A Dream)" by the Chordettes

Then I had to go to Sack N Save and get me some goodies, among them the rum on special for only $19.99. (the Nectar of the Gods.)

Got back home and more emails, and get more of the blogs set up, and I am always cleaning up, a must on the computer or you wont know where anything is. Got rid of a lot of duplicates.
Pub's Side Note: Everyone admits that the Rail is not going to get people off the cars. But the commitments have been made for the ones that are slated to make the few who are going make the Big, Big, Bucks.

Zero Sum Day

Started out a nice day, having had a very nice sleep for the night. Had a nice, lite breakfast and got ready for the day in town. Left a few minutes late and then I could see the bus coming a little early so I had to run for it. Inside the bus it took me about 10 minutes of deep breathing to get back to normal. I am just not for this kind of thing any more.

"Just found out the Supreme Court had ruled that they cannot
have a nativity scene in Washington, D.C. This wasn't for any religious reasons.
They couldn't find three wise men and a virgin."

Got to the Kalihi Transit and the B bus got their immediately after and I was at KKV to see the Dentist for a 1:00 PM appointment about 20 minutes ahead of time. I had to go through the rigamarole and wait. Just before 1:00 they gave me the papers to check with the cashier. Then sent me upstairs to the dentist.

Friday, went to Sack N Save and thought to get a photo of these guys. Koa Baggz
and Verrick Melendez. I'll make them a poster for the next blog.

Their regrets, the dentist called in sick and they tried to call but whatever .... So they set up another appointment for Friday, 27th. Let us hope. Then I call my computer Geek to get my laptop computer. Made arrangments to see him at Times Market, Liliha and Vineyard. Got there a little after one and waited around until two pm. Something wrong, so I got the bus going to town.

Still Friday and around the corner, they told me of a new place, next
to Shelly's Hair Studio, this one called Bright Morning Star and we will
know more for the next blog. Paul H. Taong and Tony Comboy.

Went to get my calculator watch at Fisher's but they couldn't find it. They tried to get one from the Kakaako store and perhaps tomorrow. I went to Longs but the prices are pretty high there. So may as well go home. And I was on the C bus before 2:45 and at Kapolei by 3:30.

"Young At Heart" by Frank Sinatra

Went to KMart and I bought the most expensive Thirteen Dollar watch they had. I am the last of the big spenders. Got home tired, and I though I might eat something and perhap later on have a little Nectar of the Gods. I am not going anywhere tonight.

So how was your day?

New Year, New Work

I have been neglecting Nanakuli Ridge with being tied up with all the dance functions on this Island. The average hits per day dropped from 12 to 8. But it is a new blog and it will take some time.

"For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await
another voice. And to make an end is to make a beginning. Happy New Year."

I went to Nanakuli Super and Carla had some of the family there. So I took my groceries home and came back with the camera.

Jasteen, Caimelo, Caria, Carla, Penelope and Jasarue at the famous Ono Steak and Shrimp,
nice place to enjoy a little food, al fresco.

I plan on going to the Sunday church meeting that is held in the partial building next door. Maybe I can get a few photos there and more people to tune into the blog. Maybe a few suggest new places for photos. Then I thought about the Faststop and the Mobile place next door. Will have to drop by next week. This is a nice side hobby. Then I was going to go to the reopening of the new McDonalds. Maybe get a few photos. It is all about us, in Nanakuli Ridge.

Pub's Side Note: Some people have suggested I take photo of the new homeless village in process behind Sack N Save. But I am very busy and I can do nothing to help them. I will do as the rest of us and simply ignore them. Perhaps someone can think of something that will really help.

Nanaikeola New Year

The day was nice and I was busy in the evening.  But about ten, I decided to look in on the Seniors at the Nanaikeola Apartments Community Room on the third floor. A small group but it is a beginning. There will be more people attending later on, we are still new at this game. I got three nice photos.

They had already eaten and had started to put things away. As per usual they always have plenty of everything. I still cannot eat in public places because of my teeth but I was able get a few choice morsels to take down the hall with me to my apartment. Next time more people, more photos.

"Imagine" by John Lennon, on Karaoke

They were having a nice time with Karaoke and I even had a couple dances with Ruth. Later on I got a the nice write up from Penny.

"In this new year, forgive your betrayers to free yourself from the pain. And forgiveness
for betraying others that you may free yourself of guilt and start anew. We are all from
the same source of God, so when you harm someone else, you harm yourself. Be grateful
that you may rest in his arms and sweet tenderness, that is also who you truly are.
Happy New Year in his name and all that is love."
